Funny Latin Titles
I like that title. Heck, I like Latin, even though I've never studied it. I've picked up a phrase here and there and occasionally almost decided to get serious about the study of Latin.
"fides quaerens intellectum" means "faith seeking understanding". It describes where I am in my journey of life. I believe in a faithful loving God. I believe that the idea of a supreme intellect/designer is the best explanation for the complexity that exists in our world. I see no evidence that complexity happens. However, I am never opposed to examining what I believe and why I believe it. I don't believe in sacred cows that should never be discussed. If there is truth, let it be uncovered, even if it contradicts what I have believed for 40 years.
I've been exploring new worlds for many years. I was raised in the so-called concrete jungle - Detroit, Michigan. We didn't get out of the city much, but I knew nearly every rock within bike riding distance of our house. I can still name every street in that neighborhood. Once I got out of there, I took to exploring the world. I've been in all but 4 states and I've visited 15 countries. It's not enough. I want to see more!
My exploration has not been confined to geography. The faith of my family was very rigid and legalistic. I broke out of that early and have forged my way though legalism, liberalism, arminianism, calvinism, dissillisionment, scepticism, and a bunch of other -isms to a faith I own. By that I mean, it wasn't inherited from some venerable member of the clergy or absorbed from a single book, or simply adopted as a natural result of growing up with it. I had to work for it. I know what I believe about a lot of things and have no problem accepting the inevitability of uncertainty in a lot of other areas.
I've explored foreign languages. I've studied Polish, Russian, and Serbian/Croatian extensively. I lived in Germany and picked up some of that. I took up the study of Koine Greek out of an interest in theology and biblical studies. I love it all. Too many languages; too little time!
I'm a curious guy. I'm one of those kids who took things apart to see how they worked. I'm still doing it; although now it is usually thoughts and ideas instead of toys. Well, perhaps those are my toys.
Peace be with you!

Maybe, I'll explore the world too... Just to see what my dad saw.
